Fortnight Mira Longline - A Review

Review of Fortnight Mira Longline bra

I am still looking for some wireless bras as my Freya Deco Soft Cup bra is getting too shallow, and the OnGossamer Cabana Cotton Modal Wire-Free bra was a disaster shapewise. I still want something more immediate projection without being actually projected. Although I have never spent more than $60 on a bra before, I decided to bite the bullet and try the Fortnight Mira Longline as it seemed to be comfortable and offer the shape I want. I ended up plunking down $110 for a 30D bra that was Made in Canada.

Band Size: Fine. It's a 30 band that feels like a 30 band but rides up in the back a bit. I was surprised that it actually stretched to 32".

Cup Size: Great. This bra runs true to size in the cup.

Cup Shape: Good, but could be a bit better. This bra has just barely enough immediate projection, and has broad and tall cups. It's definitely more comfortable than a wired bra but I was expecting more from a wireless bra. The lace band and the wide straps make it less comfortable. Still, it is not more uncomfortable than the Freya Deco Soft Cup.

Cup Spacing and Centre Gore: Good, but could be a bit better. It's a wireless bra so it doesn't have underwire issues at the gore. The cup spacing could be a tad more far apart though.

Color: Great. I love the ivory color.

Verdict: This bra gets an 80% rating. While it offers enough immediate projection, it's only just barely. It is great if you have moderate or mild shallowness and are not FOB. It's also great if you have average projection and are not FOB. Great for broad and tall roots. I do wish the band were not lacy and the straps were thinner. If I don't find a better longline I might get this same bra in black.

In the future I might get the Dreams and Underthings Bralette and see what happens.

OnGossamer Cabana Cotton Modal Wire-Free Bra - A Review

Review of OnGossamer Cabana Cotton Modal Wire-Free bra

It has been 10 months since I last bought a bra. I am looking for some wireless bras as my Freya Deco Soft Cup bra is getting too shallow, especially at the bottom parts of the cups. I want something that is ideally non-pushup and with more immediate projection. This would take the TOMgirl Yoga Bra, the Gossard Super Smooth and the OnGossamer Mesh Unwire Uplift out of contention. I figured there would be no harm in trying the OnGossamer Cabana Cotton Modal Wire-Free bra in 30D to see if it worked.

Band Size: Fine. It's a 30 band that feels like a 30 band. It does ride up in the back a bit. Upon further inspection, the band stretches out to 32".

Cup Size: Awful. This bra runs large in the cup, which is pretty bad cause the OnGossamer Mesh Bump-It-Up runs small in the cup. I feel that OnGossamer might be inconsistent in their cup sizing.

Cup Shape: Awful This bra is immediately too shallow and too projected at the apex. It's great if your shape is very conical and size is 30DD but for me it does not work.

Cup Spacing and Centre Gore: Good.

Color: Good. I like the light heather grey.

Verdict: This bra gets only a 50% rating from me. While I'm not miffed about the band running a bit larger, I am not happy with the cups running 1 full cup volume larger and the shape being very hard-to-fit. Very few people have that conical shape but if you do have this shape it might be nice to try.

In the future I might get the Lepel Lyla Soft Bra and the Fortnight Mira and see what happens.

Forty Winks Retail Store Review

Forty Winks is a small, independently owned retailer of underwear and sleepwear. It is located in Harvard Square and so I paid them a visit today to check out some different bra brands than what I usually wear.

When I first walked in, the salesperson was busy with another customer. This let me browse for a bit by myself. Once the other customer left the salesperson immediately said hi and welcome to me. She got a fitting room started for me and answered my question about which brands the store carries. I was especially interested in trying out some bras by Fortnight, On Gossamer, Skarlett Blue, and Gossard.

Their selection of bras is okay. They carry two styles in 28A-C, both by TLBC. They have somewhat of a selection of bras from 30A to 40G by various brands. I found that while the size and brand selection is pretty decent, almost all the bras cater to shallow and broad rooted shapes. If your shape is projected and/or narrow rooted, there are fewer styles here for you to try.

This is a tiny store, so I won't hound them too much for not having so much selection. I think it is a very positive sign that they carry 28, 30, and 40 bands at all, plus F, FF, and G cups. The prices vary; most things were between $40 - $100.

Verdict: 4/5
