Soak Wash - A Review

Review of Soak Wash

Soak Wash is a liquid detergent for delicate lingerie and sweaters. Anybody who wears bras and/or wool sweaters can benefit from using Soak Wash as it is much gentler on your delicate garments than a traditional washing machine/tumble dryer. You can use Soak Wash to extend the life of your bras and sweaters. I bought a 3 oz bottle of Soak Wash in Unscented for $10 (you can find a list of stores that carry it here: http://www.soakwash.com/store/store-locator).

Soak Wash is very easy to use.

Gather your delicate garments (lingerie and sweaters) and divide them into lights and darks.

Here I have chosen one bra and one sweater.
Add a capful of Soak Wash.
Fill up your sink with cool water.

Let your garments soak in the water for 15 minutes
Lay your garment on a towel; let dry.

Soak Wash is gentler on your delicate lingerie than a washing machine, cheaper than dry cleaning, and ridiculously convenient to use. I highly recommend getting yourself a 3 oz bottle of Unscented if you are just trying it out. If you decide that you like it, 12 oz bottles and other scents are available.

Verdict: 5/5

Jo Karen Lingerie Retail Store Review

Jo Karen Lingerie is a small, independently owned retailer of underwear, sleepwear, activewear, and accessories. It is a really short drive from by house (as is the case with Nordstrom) so I went there today to see what they had in store.

When I first walked in, I was greeted by one of the two salespeople. I asked about getting some liquid detergent for delicate lingerie and sweaters and they directed me to the Soak Wash display. I picked up a bottle and continued browsing.

Their selection of bras is decent. They have a good selection of b.tempt'd starting in 30 bands. They also have a wide variety Panache, but only starting in 30 bands (Panache makes 28 bands but Jo Karen does not stock them). They have Cleo, but only the Lucy bra and only starting in 30 bands (Cleo also has 28 bands but Jo Karen does not stock them either). They have a good selection of Curvy Kate in both 28 and 30 bands. Unfortunately, they did not have my cup size in 28 bands.

While I think it's great that Jo Karen carries Soak Wash, as well as many brands that offer 28 and 30 band bras, I do have a few suggestions. They already have a great selection of b.tempt'd, in styles, band sizes, and cup sizes. However, they should carry Panache in 28 bands. They should carry a wider selection of Cleo and in 28 bands. They could also carry a few more styles of Curvy Kate.

Verdict: 4.5/5

Intimacy of Boston Retail Store Review

Intimacy is a chain store that is owned by the makers of Marie Jo and Prima Donna. It is a nationwide, high end retailer. I decided to pop in and see what it was like.

When I walked in, the salesperson was busy and I had to wait two minutes before being served. I told her what I was looking for, and she got me a few styles to try out in the fitting room. Since Intimacy of Boston is owned by Van de Velde, the corporation behind Marie Jo, the store primarily carries Marie Jo lingerie. Marie Jo is a very upscale lingerie brand. It makes band sizes 30A-38E, which is still better than most American companies (Van de Velde is Belgian).

I tried on many lovely pieces of lingerie. I feel like the sizing is a bit inconsistent though. For example, with the Jane push-up bra I needed a 30C. However, with the Jane balcony bra I was spilling out of the 30C and had to get a 30D instead. Also, many of the style were marked as "padded" bras, when really they were just moulded bras.

Although the products were all pricey, they were actually more reasonable than most online retailers. The bras went for $120-$130 whereas online the same bras would go for $140-$150.

After trying on many bras, I found a really good one: the Jane push-up bra in 30C. Unfortunately, they did not have the colour I wanted in stock. I will have to buy it online sometime in the future.

Verdict: 4/5

Petite Outfit: Old Navy Jeans

Old Navy carries a wide selection of petite clothing on its website and their long-sleeved tees are great. So I decided to order a pair of their jeans.

Old Navy The Diva Boot-Cut Jeans in Campfire, size P0

Old Navy's Diva jeans are the straight figure jeans. For curvy body types, there is the Sweetheart and for semi-curvy types there is the Flirt. The jeans were in the right length (29.5" inseam), however they were one size too big in both the hip and the waist. I wish they made size P00. My measurements are 24.5" waist and 33" hip so these jeans would be a good fit for someone who has a 25.5" waist and a 34" hip. I really did like the colour though. Old Navy puts the 'navy' in jeans.
